Meet Aldona, in Mexico…
What is your native language, and which are you fluent in?
My native language is Spanish, and I’m fluent in Spanish and English. I’ve translated in these languages for many years in industries like business, legal, medical, financial, government and more.
When and why did you become interested in translation?
I started in my early teens — I loved Jesus Christ Superstar, so I transcribed and translated (badly) the music from it. I obtained my degree late, about 10 years ago, loved my school and love my job.
What is your favorite part about being a translator?
I actually like a number of things about it: the creativity I am allowed for some translations, research, organising my time and being proud of always delivering quality work on time.
What are the most important phrases to learn first in a new language?
Simple phrases for interacting when visiting a country with foreign language speakers is always a must! I would love to learn French next this way – it is such an elegant language.
What is your favorite word in another language?
Love in English and amor in Spanish. Beautiful words!
What are your favorite travel destinations?
Canada, the United States, any Pueblo Mágico in Mexico, anywhere with mountains, volcanoes and also beaches.
What are your best tips when traveling internationally?
Buy good travel insurance before you go and don’t lose your passport!
